Experience everyday life at the farm
Håvardsrud Seterliv is a jewel in the Skirvedalen valley where kids can really let their hair down. Here, the herders proudly demonstrate how to handle the animals, and both adults and children are invited to take part in the daily chores. It's a delight to see the children jumping from rock to rock with the goat and the lamb, or sitting on the turf roof and cuddling with the rabbits.
The day at the farm follows set traditions. Already at 6-7 o'clock there is «kykkeliky», followed by breakfast for the pigs and collection of the cows for milking. You can help feed the calves, cows and rabbits, or perhaps collect fresh eggs from the henhouse. For many, the highlight is getting to feed the pigs sour milk - a guaranteed success for the little ones!
The taste of tradition and cheese making
In the new dairy, you can watch through the windows as the budeia churns the milk, cheeses and churns butter. For food safety reasons, this takes place behind glass, but there is great interest in the traditional craft. If you want to try your hand at it, you can sign up for a butter course (1-2 hours) where you make your own butter together with the budeia and take it home with you.
When hunger strikes, you can move into the cosy dining room. Here you'll be served traditional Norwegian dishes such as rømmegrøt (sour cream porridge) and sheep patties, made from the farm's own ingredients. Håvardsrud Seterliv isn't just a visit, it's a journey back to an important part of our cultural heritage, where animal welfare and genuine enjoyment of food take centre stage.
