Kite mecca in Tessungdalen
At the top of Tessungdalen, about 30 kilometres north of Sandviken Camping, the landscape opens up into one of the district's best areas for kiting. Here, on the edge of Hardangervidda, you'll find large, open areas with stable winds - ideal for learning the art of steering the kite or for putting miles and miles of snow behind you.
For those who want to learn kiting from scratch, Kenneth Karlsen Grønstad offers professional kiting courses with a maximum of three participants per group. This ensures that you get close follow-up and a safe introduction to the sport. From week 8, the road is ploughed all the way to Småroi (approx. 2 km), while in the weeks before this you can enjoy the silence by skiing in or using snowmobile transport.
Freedom all year round
Although winter is the peak season for kiting with skis on your feet, the adventure doesn't stop when the snow melts. Småroi and the surrounding areas also offer exciting opportunities for kiting on bare ground or water in the summer. The open mountain terrain provides a unique sense of freedom whatever the season.
After a day with wind in your hair and adrenaline in your body, it's a short journey back to the warmth of Sandviken Camping. Many kiters use us as a base, as the combination of tough days in the mountains and relaxing evenings by Lake Tinnsjøen provides the optimal holiday feeling.
