Rock climbing and bouldering right by the campsite
You don't have to travel far to climb when you stay with us. Just a stone's throw from reception is a popular bouldering wall, perfect for a quick workout or for children who want to give it a go. For those who want to climb higher, there's a great climbing area fairly hidden in the forest, just 400 metres from the campsite.
There are several bolts in the rock that are ideal for top rope attachment. The field offers varied levels of difficulty to suit everyone from beginners to experts. Since the field is a little hidden, just ask us at reception - we'll be happy to explain the way so you can find the best routes.
World-class ice climbing in Rjukan
When the cold sets in and the sun disappears from Rjukan for six months, the valley is transformed into one of the world's foremost destinations for ice climbers. With over 200 frozen waterfalls of all levels of difficulty, the conditions are unique. Here you'll find everything from easily accessible waterfalls close to the road to technically demanding routes for the most experienced.
For those new to the sport, there are skilled local guides who offer courses and instruction tailored to your level. Hanging from the icicles in the dramatic landscape around Rjukan provides an adrenaline rush and a nature experience you won't soon forget. After a cold day in the ice wall, it's great to return to the cabin at Sandviken to defrost and plan the next day's routes.
