waterfall

Telemark's dramatic landscapes are characterised by spectacular waterfalls that tumble down the mountainsides. From the child-friendly Lurefossen waterfall to the hidden gems where you can take a natural shower, the area around Sandviken offers watery experiences you won't soon forget.

The roar of water and magical moments

There's something very special about the sound and pressure of a waterfall. In our neighbourhood, you'll find several great waterfall experiences, each with its own unique character. Some invite excitement and play, while others offer tranquillity and fantastic views.

Local favourites and hidden gems

  • Lurefossen: Our nearest pride and joy, just 7-8 kilometres north of the campsite (towards Tessungdalen). Here, a bridge goes right over the waterfall, which gives you a fantastic feeling in your stomach! After rainy weather, the pressure here is enormous - a great experience for the whole family. Did you know that one of our cabins is named after this particular waterfall?
  • Gjuvbekken: You're literally standing on top of the waterfall! Approximately 5 kilometres in the direction of Hovin, you'll find this point overlooking the northern parts of Tinnsjøen and Gaustatoppen. A short walk of 200-300 metres from the road takes you to the edge.
  • Bjønnefossen waterfall: A real hidden gem! After a short hike (approx. 7 km drive and 100 metres walk into the forest), the landscape opens up towards this beautiful waterfall. It's a tranquil and magical place that feels like your own secret.
  • Røyslandsbergo: Here, the waterfall and the river are your playground. You can swim and slide on the slippery rocks - remember a plastic bag to sit on for extra speed (and to protect your swimwear)!

National treasures nearby

If you're planning a longer excursion, we can't beat Vøringsfossen waterfall in the direction of Eidfjord. This is perhaps Norway's most famous waterfall, and with new viewing platforms and bridges, it has been made incredibly accessible to the public. A mandatory stop if your journey continues westwards!

Remember safety at the waterfall

Water forces should be respected. In places such as Juvefossen, The waterfall, with its 50 metre free fall, requires you to be very careful at the edge and take good care of your children. The rocks at waterfalls are often slippery, so wear good footwear and enjoy the view from a safe distance.
